the basics.

Half-Elf. Warlock. 25. Ceres was the daughter of a humble farming family--her mother, father, and brother Consus--who lived peacefully on the outskirts of the Ansigar Empire. Her early years were uneventful; her last memory of this time was approaching talk of her getting married, of her and her family sitting together around the dinner table in the golden glow of the setting sun. But the next thing she knew, she awoke discarded among corpses in a dark cellar. In her panic she searches the sea of bodies and eventually finds her mother, who is being guarded by her father, now an abomination warped beyond recognition. She has no choice to subdue his aggression with violence. Upon her victory, she breaks down and begs the heavens for the strength to seek revenge on whoever did this to her family. To her surprise, the heavens answer--an unknowable old one grants her magical power to accomplish her goal. Now armed and fueled by her rage, she emerges from the empty facility and sets up in a nearby town, taking up dirty and difficult work for coin and to get stronger.

Ambrosis➙ Every member of the empire is required to complete a "year in service," where they venture to the capital of Ambrosis to engage in a profession related to one's expertise. It's Ceres's time, and she is grouped with two others, Oscar and Thaelyn, to complete a personal request of the emperor: seek out the ashes of a phoenix and a hydra egg so he may ascend to godhood. But his close friend tells the party that this will only be accomplished at the cost of the current gods' lives, whose mortal forms are currently in danger of being hunted down by the very ones who killed Ceres's family. Though she was indifferent at first, she readily takes on this second task. The Deadlands➙ The party's first destination is the Deadlands beyond the southern border of the empire. It's home to a warrior clan where one of the mortal incarnations of the gods might live, and also rumored to be home to the Hydra as well. When they come to the camp they find the god is most likely the champion's squire, not the champion herself. Together they venture to the abandoned temple in the Deadlands, from where mangled human corpses were said to emerge and attack the clan. Ceres follows the lead in excitement, but finds it has only one occupant who provides no leads and is easily disposed of. They do, however, find a portal inside, and they cautiously hop in...which leads Ceres to where she is now.

Oscar➙ Male. Human. Paladin. Goody two-shoes. Very fun to send unsolicited mind messages to. At least he has the patience to talk to people. Thaelyn➙ Male. Human. Druid. Quiet. Reliable. Knows his stuff, but too trusting of birds. How many birds am I going to have to shoot down?
